We went to the William L Finley Wildlife Refuge just south of Corvallis over the weekend. This osprey dove into the water after a fish and missed it. When the osprey came up, it shook the water off, just like a dog would. I thought it was kind of interesting. I had never really seen this before. This photo was taken from the blind at McFadden Marsh on Bruce Rd. It's a great place to watch critters. A kingfisher landed in a tree nearby, but of course he was partially obscured by a branch. The drive down was definitely worth it. We saw quite a few meadowlarks, western bluebirds and quail. And there were rabbits on just about every trail we walked.

I've seen osprey fly inches above a river with their talons in the water, apparently washing their feet. I've never seen them shake water off themselves like in the photo.
