It's in the woods where the trail meets the creek and makes a sharp left turn to the observation deck. On the other side of the creek is a tree with a big gash in it and that's where the owl can sometimes be found. You need to look carefully because the owl blends in so well.

Had you located the bird on a previous hike or did you just happen upon it?
One of the volunteers at the refuge showed me the owl's location last winter. Since then, I've seen it a few times in the same place.
